The town of Navelli is one of the oldest castles in the diocese of Valva, attached to the diocese of L'Aquila August 29, 1424 by Pope Martin V in order to quell the violent conflicts that have arisen regarding the payment of tithes to the Bishop of Valva by citizens and the inhabitants of the comitatus Aquilanus.

The country was founded by the inhabitants of several villages that, because of the phenomenon of which developed in the Middle Ages (VIII-X sec.) And dictated by strategic and defensive reasons, they decided to come together in a unique castle high on a hill and still on the plain, where they had arranged the villages, you can see some of the medieval churches that belonged to the latter as the church of St. Mary in Cerulis that once was part of the "Vicus Incerulae" and the time of the Vestini was a temple dedicated to Hercules Giovio.

The inhabitants built a fortress with respective tower (transformed during the Renaissance into a bell tower of the parish church) to escape to in the event of danger and their homes around it.

Still the country is divided into two parts: a medieval (in poor condition) called "great beaches", as a great Piceggia, and the other Renaissance (in the best storage conditions) called "Small beaches", by small Piceggia. In 1498 it erected the Onofri palace in the great beaches area.
